Inner Armour Muscle Rush Peak

Muscle Rush Peak is a pre-workout supplement that stimulates ATP production while removing harmful byproducts. It stimulates muscle growth by directly targeting muscle tissue instead of relying on nervous system stimulation.

This product contains several forms of creatine including creatine HCl, believed to be most effective form by many researchers. It also contains clinically-proven ingredients to boost energy and shorten recovery time.

Muscle Rush Peak was created by Inner Armour. This company claims to offer “results that can make you famous.” Perhaps this is true as many famous athletes, including NFL players, utilize Inner Armour products to optimize performance.

I wanted to determine the results we can expect from Muscle Rush Peak, so I researched its ingredient list.

The Creatine Debate

Muscle Rush contains 750 mg creatine hydrochloride per serving. Scientific evidence demonstrates creatine’s effectiveness in improving athletic performance in brief, intense activity. For these reasons, it is widely used among athletes and bodybuilders. [1]

But, scientists and manufacturers disagree as to which creatine form is most effective. Health supplement company ProMera utilizes a patented version of creatine HCl in its product CON-CRET. This patented version is also included in Muscle Rush Peak, but I’m not sure at what amount.

On its website, ProMera asserts creatine HCl is more effective than creatine monohydrate because it is easily absorbed, and thus a smaller amount is needed to produce desired effects. This explains why there’s only 750 mg creatine in Muscle Rush. The company, however, does not provide scientific evidence to support these claims. [2]

While experts agree creatine HCl is more soluble than monohydrate, they doubt it’s more potent. Certified strength and conditioning specialist Ben Ergo made this comment regarding creatine HCl and other creatine forms combined with organic acids:

“The premise behind the combination of creatine and organic acids is to provide additive ergogenic effects and improvement of biochemical properties such as aqueous solubility. One potential drawback to this practice though, is that the incorporation of additional compounds will ultimately yield less pure creatine on a gram per gram basis…[although] plasma creatine may be slightly increased with novel forms of creatine, these have not proven to lead to any measurable differences in exercise performance when compared to monohydrate.” [3]

Complementary Ingredients

In addition to creatine, Muscle Rush contains powerful ingredients to support muscle health and recovery.

Beta-Alanine (1600 mg) boosts carnosine, a protein used in skeletal muscle growth. In a study examining beta-alanine’s effect on training, 26 subjects received 6.4 g beta-alanine daily while participating in a 10-week training period. Beta-alanine consumption resulted in no significant difference in “any of the exercise parameters measured” as compared to a placebo. [4]

Yet, in another study, beta-alanine did have a positive effect on exercise performance when combined with creatine. Participants received 10.5 g creatine and 3.2 g beta-alanine daily, while other participants received only creatine or placebo. Beta-alanine reduced fatigue and “appears to enhance training volume more so than creatine alone.” [5]

As consumers may take up to two servings a day, Muscle Rush is capable of providing an adequate amount.

L-Arginine Rush Proprietary Blend Complex (1500 mg) converts to nitric oxide, which widens blood vessels for improved blood flow. L-arginine also supports growth hormone and insulin release. [6] As a proprietary blend complex, Muscle Rush includes 2 or more l-arginine forms.

But, not all studies support l-arginine’s effectiveness. Subjects received 6 g arginine, 6 g arginine plus 25 g carbohydrates, or a placebo before engaging in moderate to severe intensity training. In all cases, arginine had no effect on nitric oxide synthesis or exercise tolerance, whether taken alone or with carbohydrates. [7]

In any case, Muscle Rush probably doesn’t contain enough to provide the full effect.

L-Carnitine (as L-Carnitine Tartrate) (500 mg) is an amino acid that boosts energy and aids brain, heart, and muscle function. [8]

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 24 subjects took either 4.5 g carnitine or 4.5 g placebo in random order, 90 minutes before resistance training. Carnitine supplementation enhanced “peak power production” and lowered blood lactate (the cause of muscle fatigue) accumulation. [9]

However, other scientists don’t agree with these conclusions. One study involving healthy men who took either 1 g/d or 3 g/d carnitine during an 8-week exercise program concluded carnitine was “ineffective for increasing muscle carnitine content.” It also failed to have “significant effects” on either aerobic or anaerobic activity. [10]

Since Muscle Rush doesn’t contain anywhere the amount used in the first study, the results of the second study may be more likely.

Caffeine (150 mg) is commonly known as a central nervous stimulant, but it also improves athletic performance.

According to sports nutritionist Louise Burke, caffeine is an “ergogenic aid” for many sports. Burke mentioned recent studies indicate caffeine is most effective at moderate dosages, such as those found “within the normal daily caffeine intake of the general population.” This is anywhere from 100-300 mg daily. [11]

Rhodiola Rosea Extract (100 mg) improves physical and cognitive vitality, as well as alleviates fatigue and exhaustion in extended stressful conditions. [12]

Taking 50 mg daily for 20 days has shown to attenuate stress and fatigue. [12] Muscle Rush contains more than enough to provide full benefit.

Niacin [15 mg] has demonstrated effectiveness in treating high cholesterol, but its use in Muscle Rush is unclear. Also, the 15 mg niacin in Muscle Rush is insufficient to produce any effect, whether positive or negative. [13]

Side Effects

Muscle Rush has no reported side effects. However, certain ingredients are associated with reported health risks.

For instance, while carnitine is likely safe for most adults, it may cause nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, and seizures. It can also cause the urine and breath to have a “fishy” odor. WebMD does not specify at which dosage side effects occur, but it appears the normal daily dosage is about 2-6 g. [8]

Caffeine consumption is another potential concern. While Muscle Rush only contains a moderate amount of caffeine (150 mg), an excessive amount (more than 500-600 mg) on a daily basis may cause insomnia, restlessness, irritability, and related symptoms. [14]

Inner Armour says “experienced users” can take 2 scoops (2 servings) prior to workout. Two servings contain 200 mg caffeine, which means caffeine-sensitive users should exercise caution when consuming more than 1 scoop.

Additionally, Inner Armour has issued the following warnings for Muscle Rush:

• Not intended for those younger than 18-years-old

• Do not use if pregnant or nursing

• Consult with a medical doctor if you or any family members has had a medical condition

• Consult with a medical doctor if you are using any prescription or over-the-counter drug

• Do not use if you are using a MAOI, a SSRI, or any other stimulant-inducing product

• Do not exceed recommended serving, and use only as directed

Consumer Reviews

Most reviewers of Muscle Rush have been positive. Based on their responses and user profiles, the consumers appear authentic. Here is a sampling of what they have to say:

Some people have concerns with product transparency, such as reviewer alkino on NaijaFinder.com. He wrote, “[Muscle Rush] does have L-Arginine Rush Proprietary Blend Complex that I don’t like, because I like to know exactly what dosage of everything I take.”

I could not find any customer reviews reporting side effects or ineffectiveness. We will have a better understanding of Muscle Rush’s effectiveness once more reviews are written.

Purchasing Muscle Rush

As Muscle Rush is a new product (released in May 2013), it is not yet featured on the Inner Armour website. There are many online retailers selling Muscle Rush, however.

The least expensive option is found at AllStarHealth.com, where the product is listed for $19.99, plus $5.95 for shipping. However, this website has no endorsements from accrediting agencies validating it as a reliable retailer.

For those wanting to guarantee their purchase, Netrition.com is a viable option. The cost of Muscle Rush is not much more ($21.49) and shipping is only $4.95. The online retailer has received an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

About the Manufacturer

Muscle Rush was developed by Inner Armour, a health supplement company that uses only non-banned ingredients in its products. Its 2 product lines—“Black Line” and “Blue Line”— are mostly aimed at enhancing athletic performance.

While the “About Us” webpage on the company’s website exonerates its products, a phone number and physical address are not provided. I did a little research on Inner Armour, LLC, and discovered the company is a subsidiary of IA Nutrition, Inc. CoporationWiki.com indicates employees work for both companies, and Manta.com and Bizpedia.com list the same mailing address for both companies.

While examining the Muscle Rush product description on BodyBuilding.com, I found nearly a dozen grammatical mistakes. For instance, on the supplement fact label, it reads, “Beta-Alanine (As Carnosyn®” — failing to include the second parenthetical mark. Though this is only a matter of proof-reading, the oversight says something about this company’s professionalism.


Inner Armour’s failure to double-check web content and product labels, as well as its lack of transparency, inclines me to think customer service is not the first priority. However, this product does contain clinically-proven ingredients with the potential to provide advertised results. My only concern is that many ingredients are not included at an effective dose.

Customers seem generally pleased with this product. Another encouraging factor is Muscle Rush’s low risk of side effects. Since this product can be obtained for less than $25, it’s definitely worth trying. If you are seeking a creatine muscle stimulant that enhances performance and muscle growth, Muscle Rush may be enjoyable.
